History

In 1996 Kristin Kennedy and Rhonda Butler from Auckland started a support group called ‘The Joint Connection’ with help from the former Auckland Division of Arthritis New Zealand.

In 2001 the running of the group was taken over by Karen Derrick and Maureen Purdom, at which time the name was changed to ‘Kids With Arthritis’.

In 2005 Maureen sadly passed away.  At that time Bruce Purdom and Phil Donnelly joined Karen Derrick as joint co-ordinators of the group.

In July 2011 the two NZ groups supporting children with arthritis and their families, being ‘Kids With Arthritis’, in Auckland, and Juvenile Arthritis Support Group’, in Christchurch, merged.

‘Kids With Arthritis New Zealand’ is the support group for families of children affected by Arthritis.
